Delicious French Toast Recipe Air Fryer
You will not believe how easy it is to make French Toast in the air fryer. This is a delicious, quick, and easy breakfast recipe that you will make again and again. This recipe is perfect for those that do not like making complicated breakfast in the morning. It is prepared with minimal effort that results in maximum flavor. In my opinion, it is easy to achieve the golden-brown crust on the outside with a creamy texture on the inside.
French toast is called “pain perdu” which translates to lost bread or in other words stale bread in English. The idea behind this was to revive or save stale bread and make this into something delicious. So if you have old bread that might go to waste, why not make a fancy breakfast for the family?! For kids, you may even cut the bread up into slices and make french toast sticks. Be sure to do a cinnamon and sugar coating after air fryer french toast sticks.

What bread to use for French toast?
The best bread to use for any French toast recipe is thick white bread. I would highly recommend using a brioche bread. Any thick bread such as challah or Texas toast will soak up the egg mixture nicely. As I mentioned earlier, French toast is pain perdu in French which means lost or stale bread. So any bread that is stale or a few days old would work great with this recipe. Now if you do not have either on hand, use any regular bread. The great thing about making French toast in an air fryer is that it does not make bread into a soggy mess. So yes, you may use any regular bread as well.
Can I subsitute milk for something else?
Yes. You may use heavy cream or half and half to add richness to the bread. I would recommend whole milk instead of 2% milk but no worries if you do not have whole milk on hand. For non-dairy, you may also use almond or oat milk but be aware that this may slightly alter the taste.
How long to soak the bread for?
That all depends on the thickness of your bread. The rule of thumb is to soak long enough so it nicely absorbs the egg mixture without breaking the bread or making it super soggy. For thick slices aim for 5 to 12 seconds on each side. Just remember, the goal is to soak up the mixture not to make the bread soggy.
Preparing the air fryer
Preheat your air fryer for about 2 to three minutes. Before adding the soaked bread slices to the tray be sure to lightly spray the tray with cooking oil. The egg mixture tends to be sticky and may stick to the liner/ tray. I also like to lightly spray some cooking oil on the bread. The suggested cooking time is 8 to 10 mins at 350 F. Depending on your air fryer and the thickness of the bread, air fry until the bread is golden brown.
What toppings to use on my French Toast?
Top the French toast with butter or whip cream. Then dust some powdered sugar. Add maple syrup and top it with strawberries, blueberries, or even sliced bananas. These are some suggestions for toppings. You are free to use whatever toppings you like. If you are making French Toast sticks, be sure to coat them with a sugar and cinnamon mixture before serving.
